Moreover, international flights also take more time than domestic ones. Therefore, you need to prepare yourself for staying comfortable during a long flight.

Tips on International Flights for a Long, Yet Comfy Flying Experience

Okay, t-mates, are you ready to turn your expensive, troublesome, and boring long-haul flight into a fun one? Then keep scrolling through this article!

1. Book Your Flights in Advance

Tips on International Flights

It’s only logical that international flights are more expensive than domestic. But it doesn’t mean that we can find a way around it.

Try booking your flights way ahead of the planned date for your vacation. Not only that you’ll get cheaper flights, it’s also possible for you to choose better seats as there are only a few that have been taken.

So you can start saying goodbye to the costly ticket and the cramped seat because you won’t be experiencing any of that this time!

2. Bring an Extra Copy of All the Necessary Documents

Tips on International Flights

Some of the more obvious documents that you must bring if you’re planning on spending your holiday abroad are your passport and visa. Although, visa requirements may differ for each country.

Since we’re entering the post-pandemic era, we now have some extra entry requirements. Like the proof of your vaccinations or a negative COVID-19 test. Again, it may differ from each country so you better do some research beforehand. Luckily, tiket.com already summarized it for you and you can check the whole thing here.

After you’ve got all the documents needed for your flights, don’t forget to have some extra copies, both printed and digital, for backups. You never know what could happen, right? So it’s better to be safe than sorry.

3. Pack Light!

Tips on International Flights

Packing light means that you’ll be more at ease during your trip. The flight is already exhausting enough without you packing all the clothes in your closet. So maybe you can reconsider that 3 hats and 4 shoes you’re planning to bring because, let’s be honest, you’re not going to use all of that during your trip.

Plus, packing light means that you won’t have to pay for extra baggage, hence saving more money to spend when you’re at your destination.

4. Bring Your Own Snacks

We can all agree that airport and airplane snacks are expensive, right? Okay, good to know that we’re not the only ones feeling this way.

Most snacks you’ll encounter during your flight, or on the way to it, are usually twice or thrice the price from what you normally find at your go-to convenience store. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to bring in some snacks on your carry-on just in case you get hungry in between your meals.

The choice of snacks are totally up to you. But the airport usually only allows something light. Maybe a little sugary snack to wake you up during the flight or some chips to accompany you watching the in-flight entertainment?

5. Have Toiletries in Hand

Okay this is super important. You must put your toiletries inside a small pouch and put it on your carry-on. During the long flight, you may feel like you need to freshen up a little. And when you do, you can just reach out to your bag and grab the things you need. Convenient, right?

6. Always Implement the Health Protocols During Your Flight

As we said before, although we can finally enjoy a trip abroad, it doesn’t mean that things are going back exactly the way it was before the pandemic.

If you’re going on an international flight, you’ll be staying indoors for a fairly long time. So make sure you implement the health protocols necessary. Starting from wearing your mask during the flight, practice social distancing, and don’t forget to have a hand sanitizer near you.

7. Exchange Your Money Prior to Your Departure

The common mistake when vacationing abroad is that people usually exchange money after they arrive at their destination. But it’s actually more beneficial to do the exchange process in your home country.

For starters, you can have more bank options which offer a competitive exchange rate. Whereas when you exchange it later on your destination, you won’t get as much because you’re not familiar with the banks there.

Plus, it is more convenient to already have cash in hand when you arrive. After that long, tiring flight, having to find the airport’s money exchange center will be bothersome, no?

8. Choose Local SIM Card Instead of Data Roaming

Maybe you’re thinking of just using data roaming because it’s more convenient. You don’t need to buy a new SIM card and you won’t risk losing your original one when you’re not using it. But, data roaming will bring more harm than good… mostly to your wallet.

Usually, data roaming provides less data but with a much higher price. Some providers even charge you by the day for your data! So if you’re staying for more than a week and planning to document your trip on social media, be prepared to see a massive bill later.

You can buy a SIM card at the airport of your destination, but it’s usually more expensive. If you don’t mind asking around a little, you can buy it outside of the airport.
