What to Do around Pemuteran Village
1. Discover the Daily Life in a Fishing Village
During your visit here, you’ll see a lot of fishing boats in the middle of the sea. Since a long time ago, Pemuteran Village is indeed widely known as a fishing village. However, back then the local fishermen often used the fish bomb or poison to catch fish, resulting in the destruction of coral reefs.

This situation changed in 1989 when there was a man named I Gusti Agung Prana, who decided to change that bad habit and develop Pemuteran Village as a tourism village. He began his effort by constantly reminding the local people about the importance of preserving nature through religious and cultural approaches.

Slowly but sure, the fishermen become more aware and no longer use any dangerous fishing equipment. They even become the front liners in protecting the coral reefs and continue raising awareness regarding this issue to tourists who come to their village.
2. Snorkeling & Diving
Calling out all snorkeling and diving enthusiasts out there! You definitely should discover Pemuteran’s underwater world. Other than encountering colorful fish, you can also find the largest biorock reef restoration project in the world!

This biorock project was initiated by two marine biologists, Prof. Wolf Hilberts and Dr. Tom Goreau as well as two businessmen, Yos Amerta and Agung Prana in 2000. Their idea was to implement a technology that was able to boost the growth of coral reefs in Pemuteran.
This project is running successfully up until now and has been granted the United Nations Equator Prize in 2012. Isn’t it amazing?
3. Enjoying the Peaceful Atmosphere of Pemuteran Beach
Another charm that Pemuteran has is Pemuteran Beach. Here, you can find the perfect combination of a stretch of white sand beach, pristine sea waters, and lush greeneries along the beach. This beach is usually not so crowded, hence it is such a peaceful place for you to refresh your mind.

4. Catching Sunrise and Sunset
When you’re in Pemuteran Village, don’t miss the chance to catch a sunrise or sunset from the beach! Usually, the sunrise is at 6 am WITA, while the sunset is at around 6.30 pm WITA.

Watch how the sun slowly rises in the morning to brighten up your day and how it finally says goodbye to the world in the evening. The sky will be slowly filled with its powerful orange lights which give you warmth. So beautiful!
