The best way to experience Winter in Japan is from December to March, and one thing that is high on the to-do list of the tourists is visiting Japan’s onsen. Sitting in the hot water while snowflakes are falling in your head is an extremely relaxing experience from a hectic life.

Nyuto Onsen, at the base of Mount Nyuto in Akita, is one of the most fascinating hot springs in all of Japan. To live up to its moniker, Nyuto Onsen Village features multiple hotels, each with its own collection of seven hot springs for guests to relax in.

There is no restriction on the hours of operation, so you can come whenever it’s convenient for you. If peace and quiet are what you seek, head to Magoroku, where the breathtaking scenery is sure to mesmerize you.
Tazawako, the deepest lake in Japan, is located close to Nyuto Onsen and is another must-see. As long as you are in the area, you should definitely check out this fascinating site and experience its splendor yourself.

2. Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, Kanagawa

Rather resembling traditional hot springs, this location is more akin to a playground. Here you can enjoy over twenty-five different water attractions, from hot springs and spas to saunas and water slides.

However, a visit to Yunessun’s hot spring pools is a definite must. Yunessun is not like any other hot spring since it has a unique twist. Depending on your preference, you can relax in Coffee Onsen, which is derived from actual coffee beans, or Wine Onsen, which is derived from actual grapes.
Even more impressive is the fact that Yunessun serves the house specialty coffee. Hot coffee is the perfect way to unwind and take in the sights and sounds. The jacuzzi and massage can then be continued.

3. Kusatsu Onsen, Gunma

Bathing in the traditional manner is available in the little town of Gunma. Kusatsu, perched above the Guna mountains, is known for having some of Japan’s finest hot springs. Water flows down the mountain every day in the thousands of gallons.

Shibu Onsen is the most unique hot spring pool in Japan, yet it’s only 2.5 hours away from Tokyo. Not only do people visit this area, but also adorable monkeys. Don’t worry, you won’t get wet with them.

An entertaining sight at Shibu Onsen is monkeys soaking in the hot springs just like people. Isn’t it unusual to see something like that? Visit Shibu Onsen to witness their adorableness firsthand.
