In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, millions of people – probably including you – are forced to work from home. Some people may think of it as a privilege, but some may not. Working from home alongside your spouse can be exhausting, especially if you do it 24/7.
Of course, it’s not because you don’t love each other 😉 It may be because you and your spouse have different behaviors when working individually. Thus, you may get into occasional fights when working together at home. Don’t worry, that’s totally normal.
Tips to Help You Stay Focused
In this article, we’ve curated some tips to help you and your partner work effectively at home. Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty!
1. Create Your Own Space
You both MUST have your own space at home 🙂 Set up your private areas to work. If you have several rooms at home, use two separate rooms while working so you both can stay focus. But, if you have limited space, you can be creative. Prepare two different desks and work without disturbing each other!
Our suggestion is, it is better to avoid using your bedroom during work hours. Try to set up a workspace that can make you comfortable and motivate you to finish your work soon so you can have more family time.
2. Respect Each Other
Each of you may have different ways of doing your jobs. For instance, your husband may prefer to work at night, while you may be an early bird. Don’t force your partner to follow your work schedules. Instead, you must respect your partner so both of you can work more effectively at home.
Some people love to work while listening to music at the same time. If your partner happens to be that kind of person while you aren’t, you can find a way to tolerate each other. You can communicate with your partner and ask him/ her to use the earphone while listening to music.
3. Move Occasionally
Bored with your workspace? You can try to find other comfortable spots in your house to work such as in the living room, kitchen, or other areas. Make sure you sit in a comfortable chair so your back won’t get hurt.
4. Take Breaks
Set a schedule when you both can take a break and do something fun together! How about meeting in the living room and watching TV together? You can also schedule lunch or dinner together and avoid talking about work when you are spending quality time together.
When you’re taking a break, you can do something fun as well such as decorating the house or playing games.
5. Celebrate Your Progress
When you have finished with your job on that day, you can celebrate progress together such as by eating good food. You can also celebrate small progress on a weekly basis. Take time to relax and reward yourself with something you or your partner love. How about doing online shopping?

It’s truly a privilege to be able to work from home with your significant other. Despite all of the ups and downs that you may experience, hopefully you and your partner can enjoy the time together. Be optimistic because we can go through this together.
