The Japanese hole was built by tens of thousands of romusha from Java island, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The hole was built to pass through Ngarai Sianok Valley, Jam Gadang, Fort De Kock, and Bung Hatta Palace.

The clock was designed by architects Yazin and Sutan Gigi Ameh. Following Indonesian independece, the top of the tower was reshaped to its present form which resembles traditional Minang roofs.

4. Fort de Kock

The tourist attractions in Bukittinggi that you should visit is Fort de Kock. This fort reminded us of the Padri War led by Imam Bonjol that took place in 1803-1838.

Fort Fort de Kock was built by the Dutch to provide a defensive point to protect five villages surrounding the hill. From above of the fort, you can also see the beauty of the city of Bukittinggi. 5. Baanjuang Traditional House Museum

Before changing its name to the Baanjuang Traditional House Museum, this formerly unique museum building was known as the Kanduang Bundo Museum. In this museum, there are at least 9 rooms with a bridge on the right and left side.

Nevertheless, the museum which has a land area of about 2,798 square meters, you can find various kinds of collections related to the Minang custom like the miniatures from Gadang, Surau, Balairung, and Lapau Houses.

Not only that, you will also find several other collections such as traditional clothes and traditional Minang, Saluak, jewelry, Al-Qur’an, and ancient currency. 

Moreover, you will also see various types of animals that are preserved with unique and rare forms. For example, a double-headed buffalo, eight-legged buffalo, and a goat with 2 faces.
