5. Avoid Skinship

Although Thailand is famous for its friendly locals, they don’t really like it when someone touches them. Unless you’re a family or a couple, shaking hands and hugging is considered unsanitary. So, to respect them, you can try their greeting called “wai”. It’s easy. You just need to cup your palms together as if in prayer and bow slightly.

6. The Calendar is Different

Did you know that Thailand uses more than one calendar? Yup, aside from the regular Western calendar, Thailand also uses Buddhist calendar where the year zero starts at Lord Buddha’s birth, 543 years before Jesus Christ. 

In short, they have 2 New Year’s holidays, one on 31 December – 1 January while the other one on 13 -15 April, or the Songkran New Year. If you happen to visit Thailand during Songkran, you will see the most insane water-fight!

7. Some Months are Better for Certain Things than Others

Yes, Thailand is a tropical country. It means that most of the time they have sunny weather and a warm atmosphere that’s perfect for a trip. But still, some months are better than others for certain activities.
