3. Enjoy the Beautiful Scenery from Ijo Temple

About 4 kilometers from Candi Boko, you can find Candi Ijo, which is one of the most beautiful temples in Indonesia. What makes this temple unique is that it is located on the slopes of Ijo hill, surrounded by green scenery. This temple is about 18 kilometers from Yogyakarta city.

Ijo Temple was built around the 10th century with a height of 410 meters above sea level. The complex consists of 17 building structures and divided into 11 terraces. 4. Stop by the World’s Largest Buddhist Temple, Borobudur Temple

In Indonesia, you can find one of the most magnificent archeological sites in Southeast Asia, which is Borobudur Temple. It can be quite crowded on weekends, so we recommend coming here during weekdays.

Lots of Buddha statues and 2,672 relief panels are available there. It’s a huge complex and an interesting place to visit in the morning, before sunrise, as well as during sunset. 5. Explore Muara Jambi Temple Complex in Sumatra

Other than Java island, you can also visit temples in another city. Come to Jambi, Sumatra, and visit the Muara Jambi Temple complex. This temple has existed since the 11th century AD. Based on history, people believed that Muara Jambi temple was the initial location of Srivijaya kingdom.

The three most significant intact temples are known as Candi Tinggi, Candi Kedaton, and Candi Gumpung. The temples were built from red brick and feature very little ornamentation. Muara Jambi temple is located 30 km northeast of Jambi. It’s a popular destination for tourists.

6. Examine the Javanese Temple Architecture at Dieng Temple

The next beautiful temple in Indonesia that you should also visit is Dieng Temple, nestled in Dieng Plateau, Central Java. These edifices originate from the Kalinga Kingdom. The temple was the oldest surviving religious structure ever built in Java.

It was unclear when the temple was built but it was in the range of mid 7th century to the end of 8th century CE. Dieng Temple was rediscovered in 1814 by a British soldier. The temples are clustered around three groups, namely Arjuna, Dwarawati, and Gatotkaca clusters.
