Most Instagrammable Country – In addition to a dozen of reasons of why you should visit Indonesia, now you have one more reason: the country is listed as the world’s fourth most Instagrammable country in 2019.

The list was made by travel site Big 7 Travel that has summed up the world’s most Instagrammable countries 2019. Every single country is ranked based on its popularity on social media.

Indonesia made it into fourth place, behind Australia, Hong Kong and Canada. List of the Instagrammable places in the country include Mount Bromo and Prambanan Temple.

Why Indonesia is an Instagrammable Country?

In a big country with more than 260 million population, there are many islands that people can visit to capture the beautiful landscape. What kind of scenery are you looking for? Indonesia has it all.

1. Under the Sea

Raja Ampat

If you think that Bali is the only beautiful island in Indonesia, you may be wrong. Indonesia is gifted with Raja Ampat, a real-life paradise on earth located at the West Papua province. It comprises of 1,500 minor islands that surround 4 major islands which are Misool, Salawati, Waigeo, and Batanta.

Divers love to come to Raja Ampat to enjoy the turquoise sea and rich marine biodiversity. Nevertheless, Raja Ampat also have incredible flora and fauna.

Kakaban is a large coral atoll in the Derawan archipelago. What’s unique in this place is you can swim together with sting less jellyfish. Yes, you heard it right. Jellyfish, the sea creatures that you think may sting you or give you unpleasant swimming experience. 

In Kakaban, however, feel free to swim with the sting less jellyfish. Don’t forget to bring your underwater camera to make sure you can capture the picturesque photos!

Wakatobi Islands

Wanna feel the laid back vibes in an island? Come to Wakatobi. With many diving spots and access to world class reefs, you can claim that Wakatobi is one of the finest dive sites in the world.

Bunaken

Bunaken is a popular island in Manado, North Sulawesi. The place not only offers amazing underwater views, but also the best scuba diving place in the world. There are also many types of accommodations that you can choose in Bunaken starting from luxurious resort to the eco-friendly hotels.

When you’re snorkeling, you can encounter sea turtles, white sharks and many other sea marines. Bunaken can be reached easily by boat from Manado.

2. Mountains

Bromo

Most Instagrammable Places

Mount Bromo is popular among young travelers. Many hikers often go up to the top of the volcano to see the sunrise. As the sun rises, the clouds will catch various beautiful colors like pink, orange and red. Bromo is located about four hours away driving from Surabaya.

Mt. Bromo is 2,392 meters tall; it is among the tallest of Indonesia’s mountains. To reach the mountain, you can go with the convoy of Jeeps. It would be cold at the top, so you better bring your jacket. 

The simplest way to reach Mount Bromo is to fly to Surabaya, the capital city of East Java. After you arrived at the Juanda Airport, you can go with a tour that will take you to Mount Bromo.

Mount Rinjani

Mount Rinjani is a volcano with the height of 3,726 meters above sea level. Besides for seeing the awesome view, many climbers like to hike up to challenge their body and mind. Mount Rinjani is an active volcano located at the small island called Lombok.

The easiest way to reach Mt. Rinjani is by flying directly to Lombok International Airport and then taking a two hours drive to the mountain area.

Mount Semeru

Mount Semeru, often referred as Mahameru or the Great Mountain, is the highest stratovolcano of East Java. It is also the most active volcano. 

Furthermore, the kind of scenery that can be seen around Mount Semeru is volcano, savannah and lakes. Mount Semeru, located in East Java, is a must visit destination for all hikers and nature lovers. 

3. Temples

Borobudur

Excited to see the magnificent Borobudur temple? It is located on the island of Java. The temple sits majestically on a hilltop overlooking lush green fields and distant hills.

The monument has a great design, decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The architecture was built without using any kind of cement or mortar! Uniquely, the temple has remained strong until today.

Climb to the top of this magnificent temple and you can see detailed stone carvings displayed on the temple walls. You can also learn about its history and importance which are captured in its many reliefs. 

Prambanan

The largest Hindu site in Indonesia is Candi Prambanan. It is a mystical cultural site with rich history. The temple was built by the Syailendra Dynasty. Basically, the complex is divided into three zones.

The outer zone used to be surrounded by a wall which has been wrecked. The middle zone has 224 small shrines. The central compound is where the main temples are built. 

Prambanan Temple is a one-hour drive away from Yogyakarta using local bus or rented car. Schedule your visit in the afternoon if you want to witness the beautiful sunset and Ramayana Ballet while you’re there.

4. Buildings

Indonesia has three large cities, namely Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan. Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, where you can find many skyscrapers and modern buildings.

The beautiful skyline in Jakarta is unbeatable, especially if you see it from the tall buildings. There are many corporations in Jakarta so there are tall buildings everywhere.

5. Culture

The culture of Indonesia has been influenced by various religions, namely Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Confucianism and Christianity. The culture has also been shaped by values, customs, and historical roots.

In some remote Indonesian regions, you can still find indigenous ethnic groups such as Mentawai, Asmat, Dani, Dayak and Toraja. They still practice ethnic rituals, customs and wear traditional clothes.

Many festivals often held all around Indonesia that represent different cultures. As a tourist, it is interesting to watch those kinds of performances.
