Now, before heading to Sapa, make sure to book your flight tickets to Hanoi. Usually, this flight involves a layover in Ho Chi Minh for a few hours before continuing the final journey to Hanoi. Once you arrive in Hanoi, there are several ways to get to Sapa, including by train and bus. Let’s see how!
1. Take the Sleeper Train
If you’re comfortable with public transportation, the most popular choice is to take a sleeper train from Hanoi. Remember that this train doesn’t have a station in Sapa, but in the nearest station located in Lao Cai.
From there, you’ll need to continue your journey to Sapa using other transportation options like a bus or taxi. Overall, traveling by sleeper train is the safest option and can also save you accommodation costs.
Currently, there are two trains departing for Lao Cai from Hanoi every night, SP1 and SP3. SP1 departs from Hanoi at 9:35 PM and arrives in Lao Cai at 5:30 AM the next morning, while SP3 departs from Hanoi at 10:00 PM and arrives in Lao Cai at 6:00 AM the next morning.
2. Take a Bus to Sapa!
For those who prefer traveling during the day, there are several intercity buses from Hanoi to Sapa. Most buses operate twice a day, departing in the morning or afternoon and arriving in Sapa in about 5.5 hours.
