Cycling Around the Majestic Borobudur

1. Wringin Putih Village

Located 2,3 km from the Borobudur Temple area, Wringin Putih Village offers you refreshing rural panoramic views with Menoreh Hill as its backdrop. Just like any other tourist village, agriculture is the main livelihood of the locals. No wonder that all you find here is greenery views.

The main attraction here is the bamboo houses that you will find along your walk around the Wringin Putih area. One of them has been turned into a local restaurant that offers you traditional dishes.

Here, you can also get a taste of one of Central Java traditional snacks, Getuk. This made from cassava snack is a mix of cooked sugar, salt, and grated coconut. It then serves in bite-sized shapes.

2. Wanurejo Village

Wanurejo Village is another tourist village that has been a gateway to the Borobudur area. You can stop by this village when you’re going on a cycling trip.

Situated between the foothills of Mount Menoreh and flanked by Progo and Sileng Rivers, Wanurejo will surely impress you with its splendid natural scenery.

The local Wayang Museum is what is interesting here, t-mates. The Wayang Museum consists of the best collections of wooden puppets of Indonesian archipelago.

There are at least 694 books about wayang in different languages, 83 tapes consist of various wayang shows recordings from 1971 to 1994. You can explore and learn at the same time!

Balkondes Wanurejo

When coming to Wanurejo Village, don’t miss the chance to visit Balkondes (Village Economic Center) Wanurejo to experience the village atmosphere. The scenery at that place is amazing.

To get here, you can rent a bike at Balaputradewa road. The rent price is affordable, starting from 15,000 IDR for a regular bike and starting from 50,000 IDR* for a mountain bike.

At Balkondes Wanurejo, you can relax on the pavilions while enjoying the view of the village. The view of the rice fields, shady trees, and green grass can refresh your mind!

The atmosphere is really good for cycling. Around the area, there are restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and prayer rooms. It’s a great place to be if you’re looking for a short holiday getaway.

By the way, it could be very hot in the afternoon if the sun shines brightly, so we recommend you to cycle in the morning or in the evening. Don’t forget to bring your camera because there are many Instagrammable photo spots there.

3. Majaksingi Village

Moving on to our next village, Majaksingi. Another place that you will love at first sight, one that offers a picturesque view of Mount Menoreh and lush green hills. Here you can explore the traditional lives of the locals, as well as the culture and food.

What’s better than learning pottery in a village best known for its traditional craftsmanship? This is your chance to learn basic pottery skills. Create your own creativity and bring your masterpiece back home.

Not just for pottery, Majaksingi is also well known for its authentic coffee. The village is designed as one of Central’s Java coffee producers by the government itself. Get a taste of local authentic coffee while enjoying the Menoreh hill view.

4. Tanjungsari Village 

Just three kilometers away from Borobudur, lies a village that is blessed by its natural beauty. With such an unspoiled geographical condition, Tanjungsari Village offers stunning natural scenery. Don’t miss out a chance to breathe in this fresh rural air area.

The locals depend on agricultural and plantation activities. Here, you can pick your own sweet rambutan, chilies, even tobaccos. Get around and explore a bit more to see the greenery villagers’ plantations.

Apart from its picturesque landscape, Tanjungsari Village is home to historical tourism. You can find a total of five ancient objects while strolling around. Among the five, there are two Buddha’s heads which are thought to be a part of Borobudur temple which separated somehow.

5. Candirejo Village

Another open space place for you city people that wanted to put off your daily stressful tasks. Situated just 2.5 km away from Borobudur Temple, you can witness the calm atmosphere of the lives of the locals and feel the breeze air surrounding you.

You can easily find traditional attractions here in Candirejo Village. Explore the village by dokar, a traditional horse carriage and discover a bunch of things to do and see. We guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
