1. Take Aesthetic Pictures in the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral

If Jakarta has the St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, then Bogor has the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral. Located only a 5-minute walk away from Bogor Train Station, the church can be the first attraction you visit during your city tour.

Unlike the one in Jakarta, the church is covered in white rather than antique brown and the design falls more on the European neo-gothic style rather than renaissance.

In 1896, the church was developed to accommodate the Catholic believers in the city. Now, within the premises, there is also a seminary, a Catholic school, and other church-related offices.

2. Learn About Indonesia’s Geographical Structures at Museum Tanah dan Pertanian

Now, before the entrance of the Bogor Botanical Garden, you will arrive at another museum called Museum Tanah dan Pertanian (the Land and Agriculture Museum). This classic European-styled building is divided into two parts: the Land Museum and the Agriculture Museum.

3. Hang Out with Your Friends at Sempur Park

Located behind the Bogor Botanical Garden, Sempur Park is a vast green park that’s usually used as a place to hang out with friends and family.

Sure, it is not as massive as the Bogor Botanical Garden, but the lively atmosphere makes you want to stay at this park for long. Plus, there are plenty of street food vendors so you can have a culinary experience too.

Did we mention that the park also has a jogging track and skate area? Yup, that’s true, t-mates. So, you can say that Sempur Park is suitable for everyone! Whether to eat, hang out, or even work out.

4. See How Indonesia Evolved from the Pre-Historic Times at Museum Nasional Sejarah Alam Indonesia

Situated only 800 meters away from Museum Tanah dan Pertanian, you might notice a large white gate with bronze pillars on the side of the road. That, t-mates, is the Museum Nasional Sejarah Alam Indonesia (Indonesian Museum of Ethnobotany) or shorten as Munasain.

Here you will have the opportunity to learn about the history of Indonesia’s nature and all of its richness. You can also see how humans evolved from pre-historic times until now.

5. Sightsee the Succulents at Mexico Garden

Next up is a site that you can visit during your tour in Bogor Botanical Garden, Mexico Garden! If you feel like you’ve seen enough of the greenery in the park, Mexico Garden offers a change of scenery from that.

Mexico Garden is a garden consisting of a collection of more than 100 dry climate plant species, such as agave, yucca, cactus, and other succulent plants. Most of the plants in this garden were imported from Central and South America.

The unique shape of the cactus gives a little more life to the dry scenery and complements well with the stone ornaments. Definitely worth a pic or two on your IG, right?

6. Observe the Animals at Museum Zoologi

Next, we have Museum Zoologi (Museum of Zoology)! But, unlike the previous ones that were located on the side of the street, you have to enter the Bogor Botanical Garden to reach Museum Zoologi.

This museum is specifically built to store and showcase a collection of fauna that dates back decades ago. The animals are either preserved or a replica of the original species. 

One of the most famous attractions in the museum is the blue whale skeleton hanging near the entrance. There is also a hall specifically made to exhibit preserved butterflies.

7. Feed the Deers in Front of the Presidential Palace at Bogor Botanical Garden

We’ve mentioned this last one in the previous attractions, but we haven’t delved into it yet. Situated in the heart of Bogor is Bogor Botanical Garden, one of the largest and oldest botanical gardens in Indonesia that will be our next destination.

First what we’re going to do is to drop by the Presidential Palace and feed the deers in front of it. The building is one of the six Presidential Palaces in the country and is filled with many historical and cultural treasures.

Of course, you can only swarm around in the park outside but taking a pic here will still be stunning enough to put on your Instagram.

The park is expansive with an area of 87 hectares. So it wouldn’t be possible to explore the entire park on your feet only. Luckily, you can rent out a bicycle or hop on the shuttle bus. Maybe visit the lake? Or, if you dare, come to the mythical Red Bridge!
