Day 1: Arrive at Weh and Explore Rubiah Island

To get to Weh Island from Aceh, first you will have to cross the ocean, t-mates. Head to the Ulee Lheue Port, Banda Aceh then hop on a boat to Balohan Port, Weh Island. It will approximately take an hour or so for you to finally arrive at Weh Island with a fare of 25.000 IDR/pax*.

Day 2: Exploring the Other Side of Weh Island

Are you ready for some adventure, t-mates? We will be heading to Sarang Cave to discover the other side of Weh Island. Prepare for a strenuous hike and the breathtaking views that will surround you. It won’t be easy to hike down and climb back up the cave, but it will be worth each of your hikes.

After an adventurous tour to Sarang Cave, it is time for you to soak in the crystal clear water of Pria Laot Waterfall. Situated near a lush green mountain, Pria Laot waterfall offers you untouched nature and a refreshing atmosphere. The size of the pond is about 10 meters with a depth of 1.5 meters, it is safe enough for you to get in and rejuvenate yourself!

Enough with the adventurous ones? Now we’re going for a sunbathe in Lhong Angen Beach. This pristine beach is where you can unwind yourself while mesmerized by the underwater scenery. There is also a well-built pier, used for docking, sightseeing, and fishing!

The last thing that you can do on your second day is to visit the well-known Zero Kilometer Monument. What exactly is 0 km? It is typically referred to as a starting point of Indonesia as a country. Take as many pictures as you want here 😉

Day 3: Back to Banda Aceh for a Little Exploration
After being satisfied with exploring the alluring beauty of Weh Island, now it’s time for you to return to Banda Aceh and explore a tiny bit of this city before you get back home to your loved ones.

Where else to go other than the Grand Mosque of Baitturahman? Standing tall with its bright white walls and majestic black domes, this 130-year-old grand mosque is indeed a magnificent site to visit once in your lifetime. More than just a masterpiece of Islamic architecture of Indonesia, the fact that it survived the tsunami is seen as a miracle to many.

Next, a visit to The Aceh Tsunami Museum is a must. You will find a narrow corridor with water flowing from either side of the building, accompanied by a scary rumbling sound that will take you to the 2004 tsunami tragedy.

The museum also features an electronic simulation of the Indian Ocean earthquake, images of the tragedy, and stories of survival from some of the survivors. A visit to a place like this is indeed needed to increase our sense of humanity.
