At the moment, train passengers must follow the procedures from PT KAI so they can board the train comfortably. If you plan to commute using a train, please read more info below so you know what you should or shouldn’t do.
New info for you, t-mates! Now, the Indonesian government has already lifted the restriction of wearing masks for passengers who are healthy when boarding a train. This regulation is based on DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency Circular Letter (SE) No 26/2023 concerning Appeals for Implementation of Health Protocols in Public Transportation Facilities and Infrastructure during the Transitional Period Towards Endemic.

Updated Travel Requirements for KAI Services
In accordance with the Circular of the Ministry of Transportation No. 84 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Domestic Travel by Rail Transportation during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Here are the requirements for intercity train journeys from and to regions throughout Indonesia. Make sure to take note of them!
Intercity Train Travel Requirements (Valid from 30 August 2022)
- Passengers above 18 years old
- Third dose vaccine is mandatory (booster)
- Foreigners who come from overseas trips are required to have a second vaccine
- Those who have not been vaccinated for medical reasons must show a doctor’s certificate from a government hospital
- Passengers between 6-17 years old
- Second dose vaccine is mandatory
- No vaccine is required for those who come from overseas travel
- Those who have not been vaccinated for medical reasons must show a doctor’s certificate from a government hospital
- Passengers under 6 years old
- Vaccine certificate is not mandatory
- No need to show a negative result of the Rapid Antigen Test or RT-PCR
- Must have a companion who meets travel requirements
- The Rapid Antigen & RT-PCR service at the train station has been closed/is no longer available
- Passengers are not required to show COVID-19 test results, but
- Passengers are required to take the 3rd dose of vaccine or booster
Local & Agglomeration Train
- Passengers have already vaccinated at least the first dose
- No need to show a negative Rapid Test Antigen or RT-PCR result
- For passengers who have not been vaccinated for medical reasons:
- Must show a doctor’s certificate from a government hospital
- Passengers under 6 years old:
- A vaccine certificate is not mandatory
- Must have a companion who meets travel requirements

Train Ticket Bookings
- Train ticket bookings are available online through KAI Access or tiket.com.
- The purchase of train tickets through the counter at the station can only with a maximum purchase limit is 3 hours before the train departure schedule.
- From 10 June 2023 onwards, passengers can book train tickets D-45.
- From 1 July 2023 onwards, passengers can book train tickets D-90.
Other Safety Measures to Follow
- Sit at the assigned seat as listed on the train ticket.
- Passengers are advised to download and use Satu Sehat mobile app.
- Passengers must be healthy if they wish to not wear a mask.
- Each passenger must bring a hand sanitizer or wash their hands regularly.
- Passengers must allow the officer to check their body temperatures anytime.
- Passengers are advised to get 4th dose of vaccine (booster)
- If during the trip the passenger shows any symptoms of COVID-19, then the passenger will be moved to the isolation train. He/she will be dropped off at the nearest station and examined by a doctor.
