Eid al-Fitr Celebrations Around the World

1. Turkey, Gatherings and Sweets

Seker Bayrami, Turkey’s tradition of offering sweets during Eid al-Fitr. Source: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/2020-woman-holding-offering-presenting-turkish-1738451576

If Eid al-Fitr is known as Lebaran in Indonesia, Turkey has the term Bayrami to describe the holy festival. One common Eid tradition these countries shared is visiting one’s relatives’ and neighbors’ homes to exchange Eid greetings and seek forgiveness.

While paying a visit, Turkish people enliven the Eid celebration by handing out sweets, such as candies, chocolates, and other treats, to children as they greet one another. This is why Eid is also known as Seker Bayrami in Turkey, which translates to “sugar festival.” Isn’t it fascinating, t-mates?
