How to Apply for a Chinese Visa Easily
A Chinese visa is a permit issued by the authorities of the People’s Republic of China to a foreign citizen for entry into, exit from, or transit through Chinese territory. The type of visa issued can vary depending on the foreign citizen’s status, purpose of visit, and type of passport.
And the good news is that you can easily apply for a Chinese visa, and the process is quite simple. Check out the steps below, t-mates!
- Go to https://www.visaforchina.cn/
- Select Indonesia and the city you’re applying from. There are 4 cities to choose from: Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and Denpasar.
- Click “Take Me to the Website”.
- Click “Step By Step Guidance (visa)”.
- Answer the questions regarding the purpose of your visit, how you’re going to submit the visa, and collecting the visa.
- Agree to the stated terms and conditions.
- Prepare all the required documents.
- Submit your documents at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center.
- Make a payment for the visa.
- Collect your visa.
Necessary Documents to Apply for a Chinese Visa
The requirements needed depend on the type of visa and the purpose of your visit to China. Below are the necessary documents that you need to prepare if you aim for a tourist visa:
- Original personal passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages.
- A photocopy of the passport’s data page and the photo page
- A visa application form
- Visa application form, which you can find here, and make sure you fill it out completely, sign on the requested places, and print it out.
- A recent photo taken within the last 6 months (full face with ears, against a white background, no jewelry, 33 x 48 mm), then attach your photo to the form with a paperclip. Check out the complete photo requirements here.
- Proof of round-trip air ticket booking as well as proof of a hotel reservation, etc.
- Invitation letter for tourists issued by a relevant unit or individual in China (if any).

Payment Fee for a Chinese Visa
The cost required for a Chinese visa depends on the duration of the application process and the number of visits you are applying for.
The duration of the application process is divided into 3 categories: regular, which takes 4 working days; express level 2, which takes 2-3 working days; and express level 1, which can be done in the same day.
There are also fees depending on the number of visits submitted, which are single entry, double entry, multiple visits in 6 months, and multiple visits in 12 months. Here is the cost breakdown:
Single Entry
- Regular: 738,000 IDR
- Express Level 2: 1,290,000 IDR
- Express Level 1: 1,609,000 IDR
Double Entry
- Regular: 938,000 IDR
- Express Level 2: 1,490,00 IDR
- Express Level 1: 1,809,000 IDR
Multiple 6 Months
- Regular: 1,138,000 IDR
- Express Level 2: 1,690,000 IDR
- Express Level 1: 2,009,000 IDR
Multiple 12 Months
- Regular: 1,538,000 IDR
- Express Level 2: 2,009,000 IDR
- Express Level 1: 2,409,000 IDR

Chinese Visa Application Service Center Locations
After you have prepared all the documents and know the costs that will be incurred, the next step in applying for a Chinese visa is to submit it to the Visa Center. Here are the locations of the 4 visa centers in Indonesia:
- Jakarta: Unit 07-12, 8th Floor East Building, Jl. DR Ide Anak Agung Gde Agung, Blok E.3.2 Kav 1, South Jakarta, 12950.
- Surabaya: SPAZIO – 502 Kompleks Graha Festival Kav No.3, Jl. Mayjend Yono Soewoyo Graha Famili, Surabaya.
- Medan: Royal Condominium Tower B, 2nd, Palang Merah-Sukamulia No.1, Medan Aur, Medan, North Sumatra, 20151.
- Denpasar: Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai No.165, Sanur, South Denpasar Selatan, Denpasar, Bali, (Grand Palace Hotel).
All of the above visa centers accept application submissions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. And for payment and collection from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please also note that these visa centers are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
After you have submitted all the necessary documents, you just need to wait until the visa process is complete. You will get a receipt, which is also used as proof to pick up the completed visa.
